Do you believe the professionalism is essential to run any successful business?

Professionalism is a vague expression that is dependent on work ethics, attitude at the workplace, conduct, and behavior. In Europe and America, the companies that don’t have professional behavior either have to pay a hefty amount to get the license or the license gets canceled. The positive and productive representation of an employee in the favor of the company can be stated as professionalism. In the cooperate industry , the HR consultant at any company looking for potential candidates who practice work ethics and contain good communication skills. Professionalism is a key to success for a thriving career but it is disappearing. Staying honest and managing the stressful situation also encompasses professionalism. Everybody knows the value of time, it’s a proverb, “If you can’t value time, then the time will forget you”, and for professional’s time is everything. The positive reinforcement and the workshop on personality development and work ethics must be provided to the youth before they enter their professional life. Social networking can also make one put their best foot forward because enables them to learn about other’s behavior in a professional setting.

But….Wait!!!!

DO YOU THINK THIS IS ALL????? Or expecting only an employee to behave professionally would be justified???

An employee must know his rights so he can’t be fooled around, honesty is good but self-respect and dignity are more important which should never be compromised. Nowadays, many of the companies in the South-Asian region have adapted unprofessional behavior towards their employee because they know the ratio of unemployment is high, and to maintain their position either they have to follow them or leave. Professionalism needs to be reciprocated from both ends when any organization demands their employee to be “professionally qualified” then they also should value their employees and meet their needs. The booming and well-established organizations always make sure that their employees are working in a comfortable environment.

Reasons for Non-professional Behavior by Several Organizations:

What do you think is the reason of dying professionalism? Some brutally honest reasons are specified precisely,

  • Sometimes it could be instability of the organization.
  • Many callous bosses believe they can never be wrong, so they try to dominate the employee.
  • Many times they are biased and prefer to give more importance to someone who has a strong referential background.
  • Insincerity with the work is another aspect of the enrooted non-professional behavior.
  • The ill mentality of the bosses which deteriorate and discourage the employee to work, which is why many people around the world are opting out to work as a freelancer.
  • Rules and regulations are only made only for the employees.
  • Being a problem creator instead of a problem solver.
  • Avoiding or refusing mistakes from their end.
  • Lack of understanding or communication with the employee can also result in creating misunderstanding.
  • Never appreciate or open to the innovative ideas of the employees.

Some Examples of Non-Professional Behavior

Many HR managers or recruiters of various organizations open up with indistinct policies before appointing an employee at any position. Later, when an employee faces any problem they try to find the escape route and politicize the situation, but this shows the instability of the company. Some of the examples are discussed under which will make you understand how much an employee can be suppressed:

The Management’s Improper Screening Process:

The successful organization will never try to sabotage their employee’s image and would screen everyone’s behavior. When it is the responsibility of any employee to respect their peers, the behavior of the peer must be scrutinized as well.

Example:

The cynical manager at a corporate industry in Mumbai India (2020), related food and science used to bully his one of the female colleague in such a pathetic way that she preferred to leave the job even though she was doing the job because she had several compulsions. This shows low-mentality of the manager and the failure of that organization who could not uphold the determined and dedicated employee who was handled inadequately which leaves an appalling impression against the company on her mind.

Intimidating and constant bullying:

In the content marketing or writing industry a very dear friend of mine used to get insulted by the manager because she was punctual, that man intimidated my friend taunting that “Because of her (the friend) he has to be on time”, and she had to face the music every time at work and he thrashed her many times.

Forcing to work extra business hours:

Likewise, the bank employee in middle-east was forced to give extra business hours even from home, if he wants to get the full salary which is the exploitation of an employee. In France, an employee has a complete right to sue the company if the personal life of the employee gets distressed but unfortunately in South-Asia particularly the employee is so suppressed that he is left with no option except ‘quitting or switching’ the job.

Suggestions to Improve Professionalism:

1. The whole world got tripped upside down because of the COVID pandemic and employee’s sincerity related to the work should be more intact. The management must demonstrate professionalism towards work more. It is suggestive for the management to train their staff in a way that they produce leaders instead of “donkeys” at work.

2. The performance of every individual employee must be analyzed instead of only believing the report of the observer working under them. The management shouldn’t inculcate negativity by getting involved in the gossips done.

3. Bullying or aggravation should be prohibited at the workplace. The management should assure instilling and demonstrating best morale to the employee that encourages them to give their best outcome in the favor of the company.

4. It is the sheer responsibility of HR to hire an employee that is up to the mark and look beyond their professional life, cross-check their links and references provided at the resume.

5. There must be transparency between the employee and the management, so the employee can equally share their grievances and concerns with the company. The employee must be provided support if an employee has any problem with the supervisor before any personal or health issue impact the work and performance at the workplace, which is beneficial for the employee and the company.
